Ukraine is famous not only for its modern cities that are actively developing, but also for unique places that are witnesses of ancient history. Among them are settlements of the Trypil culture, ancient cities, the remains of settlements from the time of Rus and other civilizations that once flourished on our land.

Olvia, Mykolaiv region

Olbia is an ancient city founded in the 6th century BC by people from Miletus. Its name means "happy city", and indeed, it has become an important economic and cultural center in the Black Sea region.

The city was located on a convenient trade route from Greece to Europe, which contributed to its prosperity. In its best days, about 20,000 people lived in Olbia, and its area was about 50-55 hectares.

Today, the remains of Olvia, such as building foundations, defensive walls, pottery workshops, ancient crypts and sanctuaries, are part of the Olvia National Historical and Archaeological Reserve.

Excursions are held here, during which you can see not only archaeological finds, but also immerse yourself in the world of the ancient polis.

Berezan, Mykolaiv region

Berezan Island is the place where the first ancient settlement on the territory of Ukraine was founded. Borysphenida, as this settlement was named in honor of the Dnipro River, appeared at the end of the 7th century BC.

Before Olbia became the center of the Black Sea region, it was Borysphenida that played an important role in this region. However, over time, when Olvia flourished, the settlement on Berezan gradually lost its importance and disappeared.

Currently, Berezan Island is part of the historical and archaeological reserve "Olvia". Among the interesting sights are the remains of ancient buildings, temples, forts.

Tira, Odesa region

The ancient city of Tire, located on the territory of modern Belgorod-Dniester, was founded in the 6th century BC by people from Miletus. Its name comes from the ancient name of the Dniester river - Tiras. In the 1st century BC, the city was destroyed by the Goths, but later restored by the Romans.

Today, the remains of Tyra can be seen next to the famous Akkerman fortress. This place is ideal for walking among the ruins and taking photos against the background of the mighty fortress walls, which adds to the atmosphere of this place.

Legedzyne, Cherkasy region

Trypil culture is one of the oldest and most mysterious cultures that existed on the territory of Ukraine. In the 4th millennium BC, a large Trypil settlement flourished between the villages of Legedzyne and Talyanky.

Today, the historical and cultural reserve "Trypil culture" operates at this place, where you can see reconstructions of Trypil residential buildings, made in life size, and also touch the ancient history.

The museum exhibits household items, dishes, work tools and jewelry of the people of Tripil, which allows us to better understand the life of our ancestors.

"Wild Garden", Mykolaiv

"Wild Garden" is a unique place near the modern Ingul Bridge in Mykolaiv. Here, in the 12th century BC, there was a fortified settlement of the Cimmerians, occupying an area of ​​about 6 hectares.

It is also called "Ukrainian Troy" due to its similarity with the famous ancient city. Archaeologists first discovered this place in 1927, and regular research began only in 1990.

Krylos, Halych, Ivano-Frankivsk region

Krylos is the heart of the "Ancient Halych" national reserve, where the capital of the Galicia-Volyn principality stood in the 12th-14th centuries. Today, the reserve covers the territory of modern Halych, Shevchenkiv, Bolshivtsi and extends over an area of ​​80 square kilometers.

Here you can see the layout of ancient Halych, the foundations of ancient churches, preserved churches, the ruins of a castle of the 14th-17th centuries, the prince's well and the mound "Halychyna Mogila".
